Let's discover the Fratelli Foschi brand: here is our interview

The Fratelli Foschi Agricultural Company was born from the passion for agriculture and the enhancement of the territory of three brothers in the distant thirties.
The farm, nestled in the beautiful and quiet setting of the hills of Pieve di Rivoschio, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, was founded as a dairy cattle farm. Over the course of almost a century of history, the Fratelli Foschi farm has undergone various renovations up to the present day, in which the vision of sustainable agriculture has become a reality, allowing the production of organic products, typical of the territory and not, genuine and of the highest quality, in particular grain legumes such as chickpeas and lentils.

Password? Respect: respect for the natural biological cycles of crops in combination with the typical soil and climate conditions of the area. The company is currently managed by Filippo, supported by his son Luca, representative of the younger generation of the Foschi family. It is precisely thanks to his contribution that the mixture of commitment, passion for agriculture and knowledge gained in the university field becomes innovative: a real turning point in the company's mission that is even closer to the problems that link agriculture and environmental protection.

We like these artisans, these producers of unique, certified and award-winning delicacies: they are real treasures embedded in our Peninsula between seas and mountains and in the most remote streets of villages and countryside. We don't stop to experience only their products, but we want to discover more closely the protagonists of this brand. That's why we sent some questions to those who manage communication with us.

Stay with us and get to know the Fratelli Foschi Agricultural Company: read the answers!

  • Who are we talking to?
Luca Foschi, representative of the Fratelli Foschi Agricultural Company.
  • Is the company family run? What year was the company founded and who was the founder?
The company has been in our family for four generations, since the 1930s.
  • Who was the founder and what was his training or what is the branch of work and professional from which he came if different from the current one?
The company was founded from the merging of several neighboring farms, operated by my great-grandfather in the early 1930s. He was a man of great energy and a strong entrepreneurial spirit: qualities that were then transmitted to subsequent generations. Initially as a cattle farm for the production of milk, it has then evolved over the decades to its current form.
  • What is the real reason or the triggering fact behind the birth of this company and when did it happen?
At a certain point, to me, my father and his brothers, the desire and the need to want to do something new and different from the usual crops that are grown in our areas (cereals and fodder) was expressed. Some time ago, then, we had been practicing (despite not yet having the certification) a type of agriculture whose objectives were the genuineness of the productions with the lowest possible impact on the environment. So we started experimenting with new crops and new productions that were then consolidated over time. Starting from these aspects, the Fratelli Foschi Agricultural Company was founded.
  • What is your relationship with the land of origin and its typicality? And why do you want to tell them with your products?
What we have with our homeland, Romagna, is such a unique and visceral relationship that it is difficult to explain in words. Romagna is a place with a very long history, crossed by many events that have forged its essence and character, enclosed in landscapes and environments of rare beauty. And our products are a bit of a mirror of the territory: frank, without frills and of crystalline quality.
  • What was the first product you created?
Certainly pearl barley: a food that lends itself to many uses in the kitchen and that guarantees significant beneficial effects for the body and mind.
  • What is the product that today, on the other hand, do you consider “top”?
Given the success they have had (and that they are continuing to have) I would like to say lentils. At first it was a surprise, which then continued to be confirmed year after year.
  • And what is the product that in the entire history of the company has most carried with it the beating heart, philosophy and soul of the company itself?
Chickpea: it is and continues to be a continuous source of inspiration for us. It was one of the very first products we cultivated and which proved to be one of the greatest satisfactions, especially on a personal level.
  • Let's talk about today: how big has the company grown since its inception? Can we get some numbers?
Today, the company has more than 100 hectares of arable land and woods, where they proudly carry on the cultivation of cereals, legumes and fodder.
  • Right now: more tradition or more innovation?
The real added value is knowing how to find a balance between these two aspects, different but equally indispensable.
  • What was the most important evolution of the company to get it to what it is today?
Certainly the spirit of experimentation and research of new and different crops was decisive in making the breakthrough and arriving at today's reality. Without this aspect it would not have been possible.
  • Speaking instead of the future: what tomorrow will the company wait for? Are there any changes or some new evolutionary process planned?
We certainly won't stop there. There are many projects at stake: from new products to direct sales, to breeding. It will be seen over time which ones will come to fruition and which dreams will remain in the drawer.
  • Are you planning to create new products?
We are currently studying the possibility of creating our own line of flours, in which not only soft wheat will be used, but also legumes and even mixtures of the same.
  • Having focused on Spaghetti
