Let's discover the Kattibuale brand: here is our interview

Gratena has been an organic farm since 1994, located on the hills of Arezzo, which produces and sells certified organic oil and wine. Run by Fabio de Ambrogi, it has been family-run for generations: it was initially purchased by his grandparents in 1968, now acquired by his mother Rosanna and uncle Paolo Sieni.

Since 2000 it has been followed by Fabio, the year in which the conversion of old vineyards into new ones began. Fertilization with manure, treatments with copper and sulfur, manual harvest. The key word is “Terroir”, which the Gratena winery deeply respects to maintain their typicality and which represents their unique way of working.
Thanks to the oenologist Fabio Mecca, the Gratena company is able to create products that reflect the nature of their Terroir, working only on native vines, Sangiovese and Gratena Nero.
Gratena has always worked in the vineyards and in the cellar to give typicality, today the majority of the production is aimed at the foreign market and covers Europe, in particular Scandinavia, the USA and Asia.

Gratena works with the sole objective of achieving a quality identifiable with typicality. The production of Gratena wines is strictly the result of organic processing with deep respect for the ecosystem and traditions.

We like these realities, these producers of unique, certified and award-winning delicacies: they are real treasures embedded in our Peninsula between seas and mountains and in the most remote streets of villages and countryside. We don't stop to experience only their products, but we want to discover more closely the protagonists of this brand. That's why we sent some questions to those who manage communication with us.

Stay with us to know Gratena: read the answers!

  • Who are we talking to?
Fabio de Ambrogi. Director and producer in the company.
  • Is the company family run? What year was the company founded and who was the founder?
The company has been family-run since 1968.
  • Who was the founder and what was his training or what is the branch of work and professional from which he came if different from the current one?
It was my grandparents who founded the company. To be precise, Ugo Sieni, entrepreneur in the real estate sector, in 1968.
  • What is the real reason or the triggering fact behind the birth of this company and when did it happen?
The passion for Tuscan landscapes and for wine.
  • What is your relationship with the land of origin and its typicality? And why do you want to tell them with your products?
Passion and respect for nature. None of the land has been modified, but everything has been used to bring the Terroir into the bottles.
  • What was the first product you created?
    The Chianti.
  • What is the product that today, on the other hand, do you consider “top”?
Gratena Nero made with our own native grape variety.
  • And what is the product that in the entire history of the company has most carried with it the beating heart, philosophy and soul of the company itself?
Chianti, but now Gratena Nero must represent the success of this small company.
  • Let's talk about today: how big has the company grown since its inception? Can we get some numbers?
Parts of the land were sold in the 80s to concentrate work and reduce costs.
  • Right now: more tradition or more innovation?
More and more tradition if by this we mean respect for the Terroir without tricks.
  • What was the most important evolution of the company to get it to what it is today?
Internationalization already started in 2000 and Organic in 1994.
  • Speaking instead of the future: what tomorrow will the company wait for? Are there any changes or some new evolutionary process planned?
No process other than the reduction of copper to a minimum and bringing vineyards and olive groves into balance to make them almost self-sufficient.
  • Are you planning to create new products?
    Not for the time being.
  • Having focused on Spaghetti
