Let's discover the Ocone Vini brand: here is our interview

The Ocone winery is a historic production company in Sannio Beneventano that has been active for over a century. In fact, it was founded in 1910 by Giuseppe Ocone and soon achieved great fortune in the area. Today it owns 10 hectares of vineyards and collects the grapes even from a small network of historic and trusted suppliers, for a total of 25 hectares more. Ocone has a young and enterprising team, united by a great passion for quality oenology and eager to enhance the territory, it works in great synergy with competence and professionalism.

The winery produces wines on the slopes of Monte Taburno, in the municipality of Ponte, where the hills reach 400 meters above sea level, the soils are rich in clay and limestone and the climate is temperate, influenced by the flow of the waters of the Calore river. Here, as in ancient Roman times, there are native varieties cultivated by local populations: Aglianico, Piedirosso, Coda di Volpe, Greco, Fiano and Falanghina.

In 2018, the Ocone brand, together with the activities and structures of the winery, was acquired by the company “Euvitis 21. Agriculture, Territory and Development”. Already in the company name, the new property underlines the choice of field at the base of the entrepreneurial initiative: to develop in a modern and dynamic key a productive reality with enormous potential, while respecting a highly recognizable territorial identity.
It is with this ambitious goal that the Euvitis 21 team is confronted every day, in which heterogeneous experiences and professionalism converge, combining the wisdom of the winemaking tradition with the knowledge of modern techniques and technologies. A multifaceted knowledge that invests the entire supply chain, from cultivation to vinification and aging, from marketing to marketing through traditional and more innovative channels.

We like these realities, these producers of unique, certified and award-winning delicacies: they are real treasures embedded in our Peninsula between seas and mountains and in the most remote streets of villages and countryside. We don't stop to experience only their products, but we want to discover more closely the protagonists of this brand. That's why we sent some questions to those who manage communication with us.

Stay with us and get to know Ocone Vini 1910: read the answers!

  • Who are we talking to?
Renato Miraglia, sales manager and sommelier.
  • Is the company family run? What year was the company founded and who was the founder?
Yes, since 1910. In 2018 it was taken over by the Vergona family, who started an eco-sustainable project that focuses on respect for nature and for the local vines.
  • Who was the founder and what was his training or what is the branch of work and professional from which he came if different from the current one?
The founder is Giuseppe Ocone, winemaker and merchant.
  • What is the real reason or the triggering fact behind the birth of this company and when did it happen?
This company was one of the first to bottle wine at the beginning of the century when the others gave grapes to social cellars, from here began a process of valorization of native Campanian vines.
  • What is your relationship with the land of origin and its typicality? And why do you want to tell them with your products?
To tell the story of the uniqueness of extraordinary native vines. A land with a great history, from mythology to ancient Rome: an influence that has helped so much in telling the story of our wines and our territory.
  • What was the first product you created?
Apollo DOCG (pure Aglianico vinified in steel)
  • What is the product that today, on the other hand, do you consider “top”?
    Anastasi (Aglianico vinified in barrels)
  • And what is the product that in the entire history of the company has most carried with it the beating heart, philosophy and soul of the company itself?
Apollo DOCG because we are in the Taburno sub-zone, one of the four DOCGs in Campania.
  • Let's talk about today: how big has the company grown since its inception? Can we get some numbers?
The company has grown a lot over the decades, developing an important national and international sales network; the production amounts to around 120 thousand bottles divided into three product lines.
  • Right now: more tradition or more innovation?
Innovation, but always respecting nature and therefore grapes as the main element that everything revolves around.
  • What was the most important evolution of the company to get it to what it is today?
Without a doubt our international business development.
  • Speaking instead of the future: what tomorrow will the company wait for? Are there any changes or some new evolutionary process planned?
There is a plan to give our customers a 360-degree experience with the creation of a hospitality facility with bedrooms, tasting rooms and internal wine bar.

    Charmat method bubbles, passito.
